WAITING BETWEEN TREES

Waiting between Trees is an ongoing exploration of time and our surrounding landscape.  The images included here seek to place our singular individual lives into a wider context of nature, the universe and the time in which we live.

Taking its inspiration from a medieval Book of Hours, the shaped cloud photographs are meditations, incantations, and prayers to our reliably changeable skies.  The clouds gather and pass, the sun rises and sets, and at appointed times throughout one day, photographs were made to capture these transformations.  The back of each piece was made using the cyanotype process, a 19th century photographic technique requiring the rays of the sun to convert iron salts into deep celestial blue, a color very like the lapus lazuli that punctuates those medieval pages.  Made on the anniversary of September 11th, these images recall the clouds of papers that floated down from a clarion blue sky.
